Alan K'necht to Barbara Stack (email)

Hope this explains how I connected the early generations of the Altsztejns where there are no surviving documents.

Oldest record is death of Lewek Alsztejn age 90 in 1827 which states his parents names (Hersh and Elka)

Note Elka is a recurring name for Alsztejn women and one possible source for this name.

I have assume Efraim is Lewek's brother based on ages of their children. Efraim is name is from his grandson David's marriage record which states David is the son of Moszek son Efraim (Efreimowicz)

Both Lewek and Efram have sons Moszek and Szymon (further indication that Lewek and Efraim are brothers)

Both Lewek and Efraim have a grandson named David

The first name Hersz appears in the decendants of both Lewek and Efraim once again a strong indicator they are related.

So in the end based ages of subsequent generations, names of descendants I had to assume they were brothers.

Hope this clears the fog a bit.

Have a good night

Alan

Dultz

I first became aware of the Dultz family when, at my mother's funeral, May 30, 2012, my paternal cousin Claire Supovitz Gloven identified Hymie Dultz in a photo I had scanned from her mother's collection. After some research, in June I ordered and received Hyman's death certificate. In July I found the 1913 manifest for the US arrival of Chaim (Hyman) and Icze
Icze Dultz to: Uncle W. Dultz, 101 Boyd, Newark, NJ (Wolf & Hester Dultz lived 17 Boyd St. in 1900, 18 Boyd in 1910.)
Chaim Dultz to: Uncle Eithik (Isaac) Stachowitz, 174 Moore, Brooklyn (married to Ethel Oldstein)

and received Hyman & Millie's marriage record. A month later I found the manifest for Sam, Yetta, and Braindle. In October I ordered Yetta's Death Certificate.

More recently I began pestering people about the identity of J Cooper in Aunt Fanny Supovitz's address book:
She was a sister to Hymie Dultz per his 1942 Draft Registration:
Mrs. Ray Cooper, 72 Seymour Ave., Newark, NJ (1942)
Finally, in January, 2017 Iris Goldenberg Katz identified her as her grandfather's "delightful" sister Rose. Census data did the rest. Hain Zelig didn't come in to view until 2017 when I found him coming from Nowy Dwor, son of Samuel, going to brother Hyman at a known address. Braindle became Bertha in March 2017 when I was shown her Naturalization papers. Next I discovered Icze's WWI draft card, which established him as Isadore at the same address as Hyman. And finally, my project to assemble translations of all available Dultz docs from Nowy Dwor revealed the 1881 birth and 1882 death of Chana.
